American River Campground

Located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains on 36 beautiful acres in Coloma, California, the American River resort offers out guests a unique setting to relax and recreate. The resort offers camping, lodging, river access, and entertainment on site. The surrounding community provides an array of restaurants, entertainment, parks, and historical sites, all within walking distance. Both Sacramento and Lake Tahoe are less than an hour from the resort and historic Placerville is only fifteen minutes away.

The oak canopied grounds of the resort provide scenic views of the Coloma Valley and access to the South Fork American River. There are approximately 3,000 feet of river shoreline at the resort. This stretch of river is home to the famous Troublemaker rapid and is one of the world's most popular whitewater destinations. Guests of the American River Resort can walk to the river and watch rafters and kayakers run Troublemaker rapid.

Coloma is one of our nation's the most significant historical locations. Gold was "discovered" here in 1849 by James Marshall at Sutter's Mill. The actual site of Sutter's Mill and the gold discovery is a very short walk from the resort.
