Amtrak Bus Picks Up Local Passengers In So Lake Tahoe And Placerville

Lake Tahoe, Stateline, NV - The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has been working in conjunction with the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority to implement SB687 which allows passengers in Sacramento, Placerville and South Lake Tahoe to ride locally without purchasing a train ticket. This bus route is the only intercity bus route that connects the Tahoe Basin with Sacramento since Greyhound discontinued service in 2002.

The Amtrak California Thruway bus is funded by the California Department of Transportation Division of Rail, managed by the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority and operated by All West Coachways under contract to Amtrak.

The bus leaves Sacramento at 10 a.m., Placerville at 11 a.m., and arrives at South Lake Tahoe at 12:30 p.m. daily. Outbound, the bus departs South Lake Tahoe starting at 2:15 p.m., and Placerville at 3:45 p.m., arriving in Sacramento at 5:25 p.m. The fare is $20 one way between Sacramento and Placerville or between Placerville and South Lake Tahoe. To Sacramento from South Lake Tahoe, the fare is $33.00. Tickets can be purchase online at www.amtrak.com , by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL, a local travel agent or at an Amtrak ticket office. Discounts for seniors, veterans, student, persons with disabilities online, at a ticket office or by the telephone.

Amtrak California Thruway bus makes stops at the South Y Transit Station, Stateline Transit Center and Kingsbury Transit Center.

In addition, Amtrak California Thruway bus riders can obtain a transit transfer from the train conductor on the San Joaquins and Capitol Corridor trains and get a free ride on BlueGO routes departing from South Y Transit Station, Stateline Transit Center or Kingsbury Transit Center by showing that transfer to the BlueGO driver.
