Namira from South Lake Tahoe will be sharing her expertise in a unique workshop designed for all levels of dancers. Namira's solid dance background has given her a polished and dynamic style to her dance. This intensive class will also include ballet style stretches for dance students to apply to their workouts, offering beginners a solid foundation to work from and more advanced dancers an opportunity to develop a stronger and more professional technique. Heavily influenced by visiting Soviet dance instructors in the mid-twentieth century, contemporary Egyptian-style Oriental dance has been shaped by a strong ballet influence. Notable instructors with ballet influence include Mahmoud Reda, Bobby Farrah, and Nelly Mazloum. This workshop will focus on creating the "finished" look of a classically trained dancer through the use of arms, hands, feet and legs. We will also cover flexibility and a step by step break down for turns across the floor. This workshop is designed for both students with no ballet experience and students seeking to incorporate previously learned ballet vocabulary into their Oriental dance. An evening show at Lotus D'Or will feature Namira to live classical Egyptian music from Flowers of the Nile! Show starts at 8:30pm...
Namira began her dancing career at age five when her Mother enrolled her in her first Ballet class. She then continued her studies of classical ballet through out her life as well as Pointe, character ballet, pas de deux, jazz, Lyrical, Hip-hop, African, tap, Hawaiian, Tahitian, Latin styles, Flamenco, aerials, and gymnastics. Her first professional dance performance was at age twelve in a Polynesian revue. Namira dances and choreographs professionally for film, television, commercials, Broadway musicals, Las Vegas revues, conventions, restaurants, competitions, and private functions. Namira is featured on the "Tito's Show 2008" DVD, and on the soon to be released "By dancers for dancers Vol 3 or 4" DVD.
In Feb. 2007, Namira traveled to Egypt to attend the 3rd Cairo Seminar "Dance of Egypt" with the legends Mahmoud Reda and Farida Fahmy. Namira was one of 13 professional dancers and teachers selected to attend the program and receive international recognition and a teaching certificate in Egyptian dance.
