PLACERVILLE, Calif. -- Crews in downtown Placerville on Wednesday replaced all the light bulbs on the historic bell tower with energy efficient LED bulbs.Officials said the bell tower was one of the last of 55 buildings in the downtown area still using inefficient incandescent light bulbs.
The LED bulbs cost less to use and last longer.
"I think that it's a very good thing. Anything that saves us money and helps the city is a good thing," Placerville resident Judith Jordan said.
Officials estimate that the new bell tower bulbs will save the city about $15,000 a year in energy costs.
