Our Historic Area’s Highway
One of the actions we have called for to protect the Parkway is to
consider designating the American River Watershed as a National Historic
Area, http://www.cr.nps.gov/heritageareas/
a program of National Parks which allows local areas to protect
their historic heritage, receive some federal funding to help, yet lose no
local control over their historic resources.
This bulletin reveals yet another national historic connection, beyond
that of the gold rush, our area has within it.

EL DORADO HILLS -- A slide show and history of the Lincoln
Highway will be presented during Wednesday's meeting of the recently
formed Clarksville Region Historical Society.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the El Dorado Hills Library
Community Room, 7455 Silva Valley Parkway.
The historical society was formed to collect and preserve the history of
the Clarksville region, now part of El Dorado Hills.
A portion of the old Lincoln Highway, the first paved road extending from
coast to coast, runs through the former Clarksville township and was built
about 1915.
Norm Root of the Lincoln Highway Association will present a slide show
about the historic highway, and Russ Nygaard of the El Dorado County
Transportation Department will discuss the county's early road system.
