Budget Cuts to Affect UC's Ag Programs

County government budget cuts, including reduced hours for county employees, will affect the University of California Cooperative Extension Department's El Dorado County office.

Beginning next week, the UC Cooperative Extension and Master Gardener offices will be closed Mondays.

However, members of the university program staff, including farm adviser and UC program representatives, will continue to work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to a news release. They will be available by appointment and can be reached at (530) 621-5502.

The UC Cooperative Extension serves the county's agricultural industry, and provides natural resource programs dealing with wildfire protection, and oak woodland, forest and invasive species management.

It also offers youth development programs, including 4-H clubs, and Master Food Preserver and Master Gardener programs.
