Caregiving Tips & Alzheimer’s Conference

Tips for caregivers from caregivers

“I care for a person diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Before her diagnosis, Betty had a routine of checking the mail and paying bills. Obviously she can no longer manage the mail but I give her the junk mail to sift through because it makes her still feel useful”. -- Sara in S. Lake Tahoe

I’ve noticed that since taking care of my grandmother, my friends offer to help but do not know how to help me. I created a list of “jobs” like cooking a meal, watching my grandmother so that I can go to church, or doing some errand running for me. I put the “jobs” in a jar and ask my friends to pull out a “job”. This way, they know something specific that can help me”. -- Ken in El Dorado
