An El Dorado County man was indicted this week on suspicion of receiving and possessing child pornography.
United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced today that a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging CHARLES DOUGLAS JOHNSON, 45, formerly of
Garden Valley, Calif., with receipt and possession of child pornography.
A federal grand jury returned the two-count indictment against Charles Douglas Johnson, 45, of Garden Valley, which alleges that between April 12, 2007, and June 18, 2007, Johnson received "visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct," states a news release by U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott's office.
This case is the product of an investigation by the Folsom Police Department and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department.
The case was investigated as part of Project Safe
Childhood, a U.S. Department of Justice initiative formed to increase federal prosecution of violent sexual predators of children and to decrease the number of Internet crimes against children, including child pornography trafficking, the release states.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Reardon, who is prosecuting the case, the indictment alleges that JOHNSON received visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct between from April 12, 2007 to June 18, 2007.
If convicted, JOHNSON faces a maximum statutory penalty of not less than five years in prison and up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and the possibility of a lifetime term of supervised release. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables and any applicable statutory sentencing factors.
The charges are only allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
