'Cricket' Draws Out El Dorado Co. Bomb Squad at Red Hawk

El Dorado County Sheriff Says Driver Had Warrant For Arrest

SHINGLE SPRINGS, Calif. -- El Dorado County deputies found a device like a pipe bomb during a traffic stop early Friday morning.

The deputies pulled over Kimber Thompson, of Coulterville, at about 1:30 a.m. along Red Hawk Parkway in Shingle Springs.

She had a warrant for her arrest and was driving without a license, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department said.

The deputies said they found marijuana, methamphetamine and a "cricket" in her car.

A cricket is a small carbon dioxide canister that had been altered to make it like a small pipe bomb.

The bomb squad and deputies shut down access to Red Hawk Casino and destroyed the device at the scene.

Thompson was taken to the county jail, where she was booked on suspicion of possession of an explosive device, possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license.
