EDC CAO Weekly Report

This is the weekly report by the Chief Administrative Officer to the Board of Supervisors. This report provides information on issues affecting the County and the progress of County activities.

Preparing at Public Health

Last year at this time, a Norovirus outbreak occurred in two senior care facilities located in El Dorado County, followed by a third outbreak in another facility one month later. In preparation for this winter season, the Public Health Department recently presented an educational program about Norovirus in long-term care facilities to more than 40 participants. Norovirus is a highly infectious virus but can be contained if control measures are consistently implemented.

In addition, the Public Health Department has hosted visits from state agencies interested in our exemplary Drug Court programs. Representatives from the Legislative Analyst’s Office and the California Department of Finance will visit on January 3.

Grand Jury Publication

Per Board of Supervisors Policy B-10, the 2006-07 Grand Jury Report and Responses will be published in tabloid form in next week. It will be published in the Mt Democrat, Village Life, and Tahoe Daily Tribune on December 12, followed by the Georgetown Gazette on December 13.

Agriculture Exams and Interviews

The Agriculture Department reports that several staff plan to take the Deputy Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer exams administered by the State. In addition, one staff member is planning to take the Commissioner exam the next time it is offered.

The interviews for the Forestry and Related Industries Agricultural Commission member position were held yesterday. There were only two applicants for the position. The position for the Agricultural Processing Industry currently held by Greg Boeger is also set to expire. However, Mr. Boeger was the only applicant for this seat on the Commission.

VoIP

After successful testing of 11 Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones within the Information Technologies Department, additional VoIP phones are being deployed in the Department to further test functionality. Additional deployment is subject to approval of the necessary instruments. Rollout is planned by department and location over the next several years.
