Tonight I went to a meeting of a group called El Dorado Dog (EDDOG), which is a regional non-profit volunteer group of folks trying to get some off-leash dog parks formed in El Dorado County. I showed up hoping to share my experiences and lessons learned from working on dog park stuff in San Francisco, and they promptly elected me Vice President. I think it was when I said "I just moved here and have lots of time..."
It seems like a good group of people, and heaven knows we need some dog parks
around here! Currently, EDDOG is looking into working to get dog parks in El
Dorado Hills and Cameron Park, two cities not far from Placerville, where I
live.
In San Francisco, I went to dog parks every day, and had many to choose from.
You can see pictures of a few of them by going to a photo album here.
I look forward to having more choices in this area, too.
One really cool fundraiser we're doing now is selling tickets for a drawing to
win an amazing quilt with a dog breed theme. Members of the local quilters
guild are the ones making it, and each square will be a letter of the alphabet
and a dog breed that starts with that letter. Below are some early pictures of
it (still in progress), and they don't do it justice. It would make a
wonderful gift for someone... If you'd like tickets, which are $3 each, please
contact me. The drawing will take place in Fall 2007.
