EDHs Son Graduates West Point

Cadet 2nd Lt. Gregory Joseph Lewandowski, son of Leonard and Barbara Lewandowski of El Dorado Hills, has graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Lewandowski concentrated his studies in economics and was commissioned to his current rank as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Lewandowski will complete his officer basic course at Fort Eustis in Virginia.

Lewandowski is a 2003 graduate of Oak Ridge High School.

The University of California, Santa Barbara has announced the names of students achieving excellence in their academic work during the winter quarter and who have been named to the dean's honor roll.

Students must earn a 3.75 grade-point average in the college of letters and science or a 3.50 grade-point average in the college of engineering to achieve this honor.

Local students include John D. Laird and Erica Tawnee Miller, both of Georgetown.

The university offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in most academic disciplines.

Laird is majoring in Japanese and linguistics and Miller in global studies.

Air Force 2nd Lt. James P. Nolan, son of Peter M. and Dawn R. Nolan of Placerville, was one of 55 Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadets representing all military services from colleges and universities from across the nation who were administered the oath of commission and enlistment by Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates during a special White House ceremony attended by President Bush.

Nolan was commissioned a second lieutenant through the Air Force ROTC program at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he also earned a bachelor's degree in communication studies.

Nolan served as the detachment vice wing commander, helping to oversee the largest ROTC detachment in California. He received the distinguished graduate award from his field training and also received the Marshall-Arnold Five-Star award as the top ranked cadet within his detachment.

Nolan as been assigned to the 17th Training Wing at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas, where he will train in the intelligence career field.

Nolan is a 2003 graduate of Jesuit High School.

Air Force Airman Sarah K. Collins, daughter of Leo and Mickey Collins of Pollock Pines, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Collins is a 2006 graduate of El Dorado High School.
