(Placerville, Calif.)—El Dorado County residents are invited to help shape the future direction of the county charter.
The charter provides a basic organizational framework for county government. The Board of Supervisors recently convened a charter committee for the purposes of reviewing, and possibly suggesting amendments to, the county charter. The committee consists of one representative and one alternate from each supervisorial district. The committee will consider potential charter amendments and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors which may ultimately place the proposed amendments before county voters.
“In our form of government, the ultimate power is vested in the citizens,” said Cris Alarcon, Charter Review Committee Chairman. “Every citizen having not just a voice and a vote, but being occasionally called on to discharge a public function. I look forward to serving as a member of the Charter Review Committee and am calling upon my fellow citizens to help form a county government that is transparent, accountable, cost-efficient, and responsive to the public need. Ultimately, the well-being of its citizens is the sole object of government.”
The next charter review committee meeting will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 9 in the Board of Supervisors hearing room at 330 Fair Lane in Placerville. The public is encouraged to participate.
A copy of the county charter, a list of charter committee members, contact information, and the agendas and minutes of committee meetings are all available at: http://www.edcgov.us/bos/CharterCommittee.htm. Copies of the charter are also available at the Board Clerk’s office at 330 Fair Lane in Placerville.
