On 10-26-2007, El Dorado County Custodial Officer Michael Cooper (33 yrs.) was arrested for rape and other related charges of a female inmate. Custodial Officer Cooper has been employed with El Dorado County Sheriffs Office for approximately 5 years and worked at the South Lake Tahoe county jail.
The female victim (who will not be named is in her 20’s) reported to El Dorado Custodial staff that she had been raped by Custodial Officer Cooper while incarcerated at the South Lake Tahoe county jail approximately two years ago. El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has taken all necessary measures to assure the safety of the victim, who is currently in custody on unrelated charges. The victim was provided with assistance/resource information.
El Dorado County Sheriff investigators worked quickly to determine initial facts of this case and collected evidence, which lead to the immediate arrest of Michael Cooper. This is an ongoing investigation.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has zero tolerance for criminal acts committed by its employees and will aggressively pursue the prosecution of those that violate the laws of this State. Michael Cooper was booked into the El Dorado County jail (Placerville) on the following charges and placed on administrative leave.
