South Lake Tahoe's Emily Clothier, 14 years of age, was involved in a fatal skiing accident. The event happened on the Nevada side of Heavenly Ski Area. Emily apparently struck an object, most likely a tree. She received medical attention at the scene and was airlifted by Cal Star helicopter to Barton Memorial Hospital. Despite all life saving efforts, Emily was pronounced dead at 2:39 p.m. The girl was wearing a helmet, Lovell said. The accident occurred in the ski resort’s Stagecoach area.
Emily was a Freshman and a competitor on the So. Tahoe High School Vikings Ski team and won 13th place in the Slalom competition.
Deputies say she was wearing a helmet and was training with the Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation. She was found by her coach, who was skiing about one minute behind her.
She veered off the Stagecoach Trail and into a wooded area on the resort's Nevada side, where she suffered multiple head and abdominal injuries, Heavenly officials said.
This incident is under investigation by the El Dorado Sheriff’s Coroner’s Unit and further information will be available at a later time. Our deepest sympathies go out to the Clothier family and Emily’s friends.
