New forest chief named

Ramiro Villalvazo, chief landscape architect in the U.S. Forest Service's national headquarters in Washington, D.C., has been named the new supervisor of the Eldorado National Forest Service, according to an agency news release issued Monday.

Villalvazo, 47, began his Forest Service career as a student in the Sequoia National Forest in 1980, and moved to the Cleveland National Forest in 1981.

He received a bachelor of science degree in landscape architecture from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, in 1982.

In 1991, Villalvazo went to the Caribbean National Forest in Puerto Rico as the forest's landscape architect.

He also served in California's Angeles National Forest before transferring to Washington, D.C., in 2001.

Villalvazo will assume his post with the Eldorado National Forest in July.

He replaces John Berry, who retired earlier this year.
