Folson Lake Rec Cuts - Meeting Today

The California State Parks and Recreation is proposing changes to the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area General Plan.

The new changes will affect the current uses at the lake and the surrounding recreational areas. Some of the changes are as follows:

  1. Expansion of the 5 mph speed limit zone on the North Arm of Folsom Lake and restriction of motorized aquatic activities on the North Arm of Folsom Lake.
  2. Phasing out of gasoline engines on Lake Natoma.
  3. Phasing out of the stables at Mississippi Bar.
  4. Relocation and or elimination of existing bike paths in the Natoma Shore area.
  5. Elimination of lake access and dock at Folsom Powerhouse SHP
  6. Elimination of dry-boat storage at Browns Ravine and lack of provisions for additional parking at the marina.

Your input is necessary.

Please plan on attending a public meeting on Wednesday, April 16th from 7:00 - 9:00 pm  at Lakeview Elementary School, 3371 Brittany Way El Dorado Hills.

Notice of Extension of Public Comment Period and Additional Public Meeting
The original 45-day public comment period for the Draft EIR/EIS for the Preliminary General Plan and Resource Management Plan for Folsom Lake State Recreation Area (SRA) and Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park has been extended through April30, 2008. The original comment deadline was March 24, 2008. While this original review and comment period complied with the requirements of both the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), in response to public requests for additional time to review the document the comment period has been extended to April 30, 2008. Comments must be received or postmarked by April 30, 2008.

There will be an additional public meeting held on April 16, 2008 from 7pm-9pm at the Lakeview Elementary School at 3371 Brittany Way, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762

Preliminary General Plan and DEIR/DEIS
Released to the Public on February 8, 2008!
The Preliminary General Plan/Resource Management Plan (the Plan) and Draft Environmental Impact Report/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIR/DEIS) for the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area (SRA) and Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park are now available for public review. The documents can be viewed and downloaded from this web page, see the links below. The public comment period for the review of the Plan and DEIR/DEIS will extend through April 30, 2008.

Comments regarding the Preliminary GP/RMP and DEIR/DEIS can be submitted to:

Folsom Lake General Plan Update Background
The California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), in partnership with the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), have been working on the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area General Plan and Resource Management Plan Update since 2002. This process will update the current plan and the long-range vision for the park. It will also result in a new plan that will guide the protection of natural and cultural resources, provide for and manage recreational opportunities, and outline the future development of public facilities.
