Foster Care Homes Needed for Kittens

El Dorado County Animal Control is looking for individuals who would like to provide foster care in their homes for abandoned and adoptable animals. “We especially need foster care for kittens right now,” said Henry Brzezinski, Chief Animal Control Officer. “Kitten season is fast approaching. We are already seeing an increase in mother cats and babies coming to our shelter.”

According to Brzezinski, people who foster newborn kittens are often asked to make the commitment to care for both the mother cat and all of her babies. The commitment is generally for four to six weeks at a time. Occasionally, very young kittens are brought to the shelter that don’t have a mother and they require bottle feeding by hand. “Caring for these young kittens is definitely a lot of work, but can also be a very rewarding experience,” said Brzezinski. Animal Control provides all of the food and other supplies for the fostered animals.

Animal foster families offer a caring temporary home while a permanent home is being sought for the animals. For more information call (530) 621-7639 in Placerville or (530) 577-1766 in South Lake Tahoe.
