The El Dorado County Public
Health Department’s Preventive Health Care for Adults Program is
partnering with the Sacramento Arthritis Foundation to offer a free self-help program for people with arthritis. The program consists of a series of classes conducted once a week over several weeks. The classes will be held on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. beginning January 7 at Eskaton Lincoln Manor, located at 6600 Motherlode Drive in Placerville. The program is open to the public. Pre-registration is required.
The goal of the Arthritis Self-Help Program is to give people concrete tools to manage their arthritis pain and to live productive lives. The classes include a variety of topics such as pain management, relaxation techniques, handling depression, exercise and fitness, nutrition, medication, and non-traditional treatment. The classes are provided using trained community volunteers and staff from the Public Health Department.
Sandy
Stokes, a nurse with the Public Health Department, says the program has been
very successful in the past. “Everyone who has attended seemed very
grateful for the information, the skills they acquired and the support,” said
Stokes. Class size is limited to 25 people, and registration is on a first
come, first served basis.
In addition to the Arthritis Self-Help Program, Stokes also conducts free health assessments for people over the age of 50 through the Preventive Health Care for Adults program (PHCA).
Individuals wishing to sign up for the free Arthritis Self-Help Program, or learn more about the health assessments available through PHCA, may contact Naomie Harris at (530) 621-6108.
