Homicidal Ex Kills 2 Because They Were Home!

... Nothing in their spats – even when police had to intervene – gave Dave Muser a clue that the squabbles could turn deadly.  "I sure didn't see this coming," Muser said Friday at his Pleasant Valley ranch home in El Dorado County.

Muser's ex-girlfriend, Dana Leigh Dodd, 48, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of shooting to death two women Muser said were his roommate and her mother.  ... Muser, 51, said detectives told him that Dodd got into his house sometime Thursday and was waiting for him – her intended victim. The two women arrived at the house at the wrong time, detectives said, and were shot.

The phone lines had been yanked out, Muser said. And it looked like Dodd washed a load of laundry after breaking into the house.  As Muser talked Friday, a dryer tumbled near the kitchen, containing some of the items Dodd had washed.

"My head is just not right," he said, sitting at his kitchen table. He was trying to clean the house, where police tape still sealed his roommate's bedroom.  ... Muser said his roommate was a platonic friend and that Dodd had been living with him for several months when the roommate moved in in June.

Friction arose between Muser and Dodd over Muser's urging her to get a job, particularly after her teenage son began staying at the house. Dodd moved out but attempted to reconcile, he said. A few weeks ago, deputies came to the house when the two had a confrontation, Muser said; he had the locks changed.On July 17, 2008 at about 1700 hrs, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 transfer call from CHP. CHP advised the call came from 3960 Leisure Lane in the Pleasant Valley area of El Dorado County. CHP advised El Dorado County Sheriff’s Dispatch the caller stated she had been shot. ...

El Dorado County Sheriff Deputies were sent to the residence to investigate a possible shooting. Deputies were able to gain entry to the residence and discovered two females had been shot. One female was pronounced at the scene and the second female was pronounced while enroute to the hospital. Both females were shot with an unknown weapon. 

Dana Leigh Dodd (DOB 10/7/57) was arrested for the double homicide. The motive is unknown at this time. The victims are Janet Emily Bergen (DOB 8/30/34) and Patricia Sackett (DOB 8/21/61). The victims were related as mother and daughter.
