I am always on the lookout for places to local places to hike and explore and I recently found out about some waterfalls in the area. I haven't checked them out yet so any feedback from anyone else who has would be great. Here's what I found:
Rock Creek Falls- *Rated the best waterfall in the Sacramento area* (25 ft tall and approx 100ft wide in the rainy season)Directions: From the Hwy #49 / #50 junction in Placerville, drive north on Hwy 49 for 0.7 miles to Hwy #193. Turn right (towards Georgetown), and drive 7.6 miles to Spanish Flat Rd. Turn right and drive 1.4 miles to Traverse Creek Rd. Turn right and drive 2.6 miles to Bear Creek Rd. Turn right and drive 1.1 miles to Bear Creek picnic area. Continue another 0.7 miles on this road to Forest Service Road 12N81 on the right. In the winter you must park here and walk down the forest service road. In the summer you can continue driving 0.6 miles to the trailhead. The trailhead is a junction of 3 roads. The One Eye Creek trail continues straight ahead past a Forest Service sign. The trail eventually winds its way down to Rock Creek. Once at Rock Creek, you need to work your way downstream a short distance until you reach the waterfall.
Traverse Creek Falls- (30 ft tall into a pool and 15 ft across in rainy season)Directions: From the Hwy #49 / #50 junction in Placerville, drive north on Hwy 49 for 0.7 miles to Hwy #193. Turn right (towards Georgetown), and drive 7.6 miles to Spanish Flat Rd. Turn right and drive 1.4 miles to Traverse Creek Rd. Turn right and drive 0.9 miles to the first bridge crossing (over an unnamed creek). Park along the side of the road. The trail is on the south side of the bridge heading downstream. Keep on the trail until its end, where it descends steeply down to the creek. There are ropes to guide you down. Once at the creek, keep going downstream until you get to the top of the waterfall. Again, there are ropes to help you to the bottom.
