A card allowing patients who have a physician's recommendation to use marijuana for medical purposes to easily identify themselves to law enforcement officials will cost $114 annually in El Dorado County.
The Board of Supervisors adopted the fee last week. The charge includes a $66 state fee and $48 to cover the county's cost of administering the identification card program.
Gayle Erbe-Hamlin, public health director, said the county's estimated cost is based on 120 applications per year. The state processes the card, which the county provides to the applicant, she said.
The board approved the program June 5.
"I know all of us are concerned about just issuing medical marijuana cards," Supervisor Jack Sweeney said last week as the board adopted the fee. "We think it will help law enforcement in doing their job."
