Important notice regarding the new 2007 codesIf you are an Architect, Engineer, Home Designer or General Contractor, please be advised a new building code will take effect January 1, 2008. The new 2007 California Building Code (CBC) is based on the 2006 International Building Code (IBC) published by the International Code Council.
You will find the new CBC is a new code and not just an updated version of the older Uniform Building Code (UBC). It is significantly different and you will find areas more restrictive and others less restrictive and as a designer or builder you should become more aware of this code.
Other codes you may be familiar with have been updated from older versions, see our web page code listing, and should be reviewed accordingly. All applications for plan review submitted after December 31, 2007 will be required to comply with these new code regulations. Inspections of permits with an application date after this date will be subject to the new codes.
All the new 2007 California version codes are available for purchase directly from the International Code Council’s bookstore at www.iccsafe.org or at your local book store that sells construction books.
All designers and contractors are urged to participate in training for the new building code in the near future. Classes are available through CALBO, www.calbo.org , training programs at the ICC website or your local colleges. We will be adding new code issue information on our website as it becomes available.
