New Life for Old Marble Valley Quarry

The El Dorado County Planning Commission last week recommended rezoning 537 acres in the Cameron Park area from mineral resource to residential use.

The property, owned by G3 Enterprises, is about a mile south of Highway 50 and a mile west of South Shingle Road.

County planners said the property historically was used for grazing and contained limestone deposits associated with Marble Valley quarry operations to the west.

The owner proposes to rezone the property to estate residential-planned development, with parcels of at least 10 acres. No development has been proposed for the acreage.

Residents of nearby Royal Equestrian Estates and Cameron Estates said the staff report should be clarified to indicate that roads that extend to the property, such as Amber Fields Drive and Deer Creek Road, are privately maintained and could not be used to serve future development. The rezone request is to be heard by the Board of Supervisors at 2 p.m. Dec. 4.
