In observance of the ongoing Season for Nonviolence and April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Placerville's Center for Violence-free Relationships will offer a free personal safety workshop for women and girls.
The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 7 in the center's new location, 344 Placerville Drive, Suite 11, according to a news release.
The program, which follows an empowerment model, will teach personal safety through awareness, assertiveness, and physical moves.
"Women used to be told they should have a man with them, a dog, pepper spray or other item when they went out," Judy Knapp, the center's director of education and training, said in a prepared statement. "We now know that secondary items, although good to have once trained, are often used against the victim or knocked out of her hands," she said.
