Ron Briggs Gets Flamed

It was my intention to sit back and let the chips fall where they may for the rest of the race for District 4 Supervisor. After hearing Ron Briggs at the Cool/Pilot Hill and the televised League of Woman Voters forum I couldn’t sit back any longer.

At the televised League forum when asked his views on medical marijuana he said he had no problem with it. He was very hostile to the fact that our Sheriff Deputies were helping the Feds with raids on marijuana growers. He said if the Feds want to fly around in their helicopters looking marijuana farms that was fine, but he didn’t want any Deputies involved. He said he was not about to take away any little old ladies pain medication. What ignorance. There are a whole slue of legal pain medicines available that work far better. Lets face it, the marijuana users just want to smoke their pot and are using the pain thing as justification. The FDA still calls it a dangerous and illegal drug.

Briggs’ (who grows organic tomatoes and other produce) stand on this issue has him shoulder to shoulder with marijuana spokes person Dave Bishop who also is the poster boy for why you shouldn’t use marijuana. I have sparred many times with Dave under the Republican banner. It is a shock to find that the Central Committee has endorsed a candidate with the same views as Dave.  Maybe the Central Committee will invite Dave to one of their meetings so he can present them with the straight dope about Marijuana. Lets hope they don’t trade their two-martini lunch for a joint.

At Cool Mr. Briggs was questioned about the placement of his illegal signs. His answer was that he has not placed any illegal signs and if he gets a complaint he will remove the sign.

When asked by another person why he had ignored a letter sent to him by Environmental Management, he said he received no such letter. After that statement I paid a personal visit to Environmental Management and they told me that two weeks earlier they sent him a letter of non-compliance but he had refused to act on it. I was also informed that he was telling people that Environmental Management gave him permission to illegally place his signs. Stop and think about that. Do you think that Environmental Management would tell Briggs it was all right to violate an ordinance they are charged with enforcing? It looks to me like this makes Mr. Briggs a liar.

With the Central Committee having had a big hand in electing some of the finest Judges and District Attorney who ever practiced law, it becomes an oddity that they would endorse someone who flagrantly violates the law for his own self-interests and BS’S everyone to justify his actions. I wonder what the Deputies Sheriff’s Association thinks about all this. After all, when you endorse someone you say we stand behind this person even if they commit illegal acts, have difficulty with the truth or are in favor of an illegal drug?  Maybe we just chalk it up to campaigning. If so, do we have the right to deceive the people this way? Is this the Republican idealisms that led the Central Committee to endorse Briggs?

At the League Briggs informed us that he had twenty-seven acres, all within the City of Placerville, which he wanted to develop commercially. I would question if all the acres are in Placerville or in the county. How is it that he can, in his effort to keep us rural, badmouth developers when he is one himself? How is it possible for Briggs, after uttering a few statements about property rights, to then con a Central Committee into endorsing him? How can he campaign on keeping us rural and still respect property rights? The two don’t mix.

At the League, the question was asked about “Smart Growth”. In an effort to evade the question Briggs said he didn’t know what “Smart Growth“ was. A member of the audience had to explain it to him. Three times, in answer to written questions from the Central Committee, he spoke in glowing terms about “Sustainable Growth and Smart Growth”.  Yes, he knew what it was; he just doesn’t now how dangerous it is. More about this later.

At Cool the discussion turned to “Measure Y”. Briggs was bemoaning the fact the TIM  Fees were way to high for the private citizen and prevented them from building granny flats for the older generation and housing for their children. It was talked about how “Measure Y” had blocked the ability of the county to access funds from State and Federal Government for road projects. All true enough. What was missing was the fact that Briggs was a big supporter of “Measure Y”. This is what I call hypocrisy

At Cool Briggs said he wasn’t against the Auburn Dam. That was the end of his statement on the subject. Yet he told the Bee in so many words he didn’t have much use for it because it wouldn’t benefit our county. More ignorance. The dam would be as big a benefit to us as anyone else. If Sacramento were to flood what do you suppose would happen to our economy?  Many of our citizens work down there and most of our goods come through there. We would instantly become a Loves and Fishes for the refugees. Yet with his stance on the dam and the Marijuana he insists he is on the same team with John Doolittle. You still think Briggs and Congressman Doolittle are on the same team? The Bee, which is so far to the left that many Central Committee members do not subscribe to it, has been crucifying Doolittle on an almost daily basis for months, yet the Bee has endorsed Briggs along with a long list of the usual Democrats.

At the Central Committee Meeting Briggs blasted the 200-foot AG set backs as an invasion of property rights, yet was most unhappy about a neighbor building his house 90 feet from his property.

OK, so the stroke goes on and on with this guy. He doesn’t like the dam. He supported “Y” and Opposed “B”, is OK with medical marijuana, doesn’t give a damn if he violates the sign ordinance and is loose with the truth. I can only assume that the Central Committee, who at one time was 180 degrees out of phase with all of this, is now Ok with all of this since they endorsed him. Strange how an organization can open their meetings with a prayer for guidance, then go about the funny business of endorsing someone who breaks the law, has no problem with marijuana, is against everything they have worked for and is loose with the truth. Then of course there is the pledge of allegiance, followed by the endorsement of someone who is a supporter of the United Nations edict to impose on the people of our great nation “Sustainable Growth” and “Smart Growth” both designed to end private property rights in this country.

Ok, on to different matter of great concern.

Included in the oath of office for a Supervisor of El Dorado County is the promise to defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. The United Nations Agenda 21 (look it up on their web site) is an enemy of our constitution in that its provisions of “Smart Growth” and “Sustainable Growth” are being used to deny citizens the right to own private property and the freedom to live where they choose. It is an attempt to turn our hard won freedoms into bygone history and all of us into property of the state.

Ron Briggs, a candidate for District 4 Supervisor, has been quoted and in his own words has indicated that he is a student of and believer in “Smart and Sustainable Growth”. This begs the question, should he win the election would his sworn oath of office be a sham?

Even more troubling is that all members of the Republican Central Committee have sworn the same oath of office yet they have endorsed a candidate whose beliefs are in line with the United Nations, an organization that doesn’t give a damn about our constitution or our well being. When you endorse a person for office you are in effect saying you trust that person to represent you and that you have faith in the same beliefs and policies as that person.

The endorsement of Ron Briggs by the El Dorado County Republican Central Committee is an act that has crumbled the very foundation on which the Republican Party is built. This begs the question, does the Central Committee represent the Republican Party or do they represent themselves?

Maybe they should consider, yet again, a third vote.
