Marine Corps Pvt. Steven J.
Ulrich, son of Steven W. and Teresa Ulrich of El Dorado
Hills, has graduated from basic military training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.
During the 13-week training program, Ulrich studied Marine Corps history, customs and courtesies, performed drill and ceremony marches, received physical training, did field training exercises and rifle marksmanship.
Ulrich was his platoon high shooter and received his expert marksmanship weapons qualification badge while in training. He will report to Camp Pendleton in San Diego for infantry training before receiving additional training for his military occupational specialty.
Ulrich, a 2004 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, celebrated his 20th birthday while in training.

Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Dustin T. Tiner of Shingle Springs recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J., at his present rank.
During the eight-week training program, Tiner completed a curriculum including classroom academics and practical instruction on military customs and courtesies, water safety and survival, seamanship skills, first aid, firefighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis also was placed on physical fitness and health.
Tiner and other recruits received instruction on the Coast Guard's three core values, honor, respect and devotion to duty, and how to apply them in their military performance and personal conduct.
To reinforce the team concept, Tiner and other recruits were also trained in preventing sexual harassment, drug and alcohol awareness, civil rights training, and the basics of the work-life balance.
Tiner, a 2003 graduate of Ponderosa High School, is among 36,000 men and women who comprise the Coast Guard's force.

Army Sgt. Katelyn A.
Reynolds, daughter of Al Hollywood of Pollock Pines, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, military courtesy and the military justice system. She trained in physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading and field tactics.
Reynolds is a 2000 graduate of Olympus High School in Salt Lake City and a 2007 graduate of Utah State University in Logan.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Jaret S.
McGowan, son of Scotty and Ann McGowan of Pollock
Pines, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, military customs and courtesies, performed drill and ceremony marches, received physical training, rifle marksmanship, did field training exercises and also received special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. McGowan is a 2003 graduate of Sierra Oaks Academy in Pollock Pines.

Army Reserve Pfc. Christopher R. Hallesvig, son of Dana Johnston of Pollock
Pines, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox in Kentucky. During the nine-week training period, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, armed and unarmed combat, physical fitness, first aid and did field training and tactical exercises. The trainee also studied the Army history, traditions, core values, military courtesy and military justice. Hallesvig is a student at Union Mine High School.
