SACRAMENTO - SMUD directors approved an agreement Thursday to use hydroelectric facilities on the upper American River to deliver and store water for El Dorado County water agencies.The deal calls for the agencies to support the Sacramento Municipal Utility District's effort to win a new federal license for the Upper American River Project in El Dorado County.
The project is a system of 11 reservoirs and eight generating plants that supply more than 15 percent of electricity used annually by SMUD customers.Besides delivering and storing water, SMUD agreed to pay compensation for the project's impacts on El Dorado County. Meanwhile ...
