Stabbing at EDC College Random

PLACERVILLE, Calif. -- A student stabbed with a large kitchen knife about 20 times earlier this week at the El Dorado Center of Folsom Lake College was apparently attacked at random, authorities said Thursday.

Sgt. Bryan Golmitz of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department said an ongoing investigation suggests the mental health of suspect 25-year-old Matthew Raymond may have played a role in Tuesday's attack.

Meanwhile, victim Samuel Knudson, 27, of Coloma, was recovering at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

The medical diagnosis of Raymond was not immediately clear.

Authorities earlier said both Raymond and Knudson worked at the campus bookstore.

Raymond is accused of stabbing Knudson in a parking lot behind the campus administration building.

A kitchen knife measuring 6 to 8 inches could be seen on the ground near where the stabbing took place.

Raymond was grabbed and held by bystanders until deputies arrived, Golmitz added.
