State Fair Changes Look Bad for El Dorado Drafting Students

In the El Dorado County school district of Black Oak Mine Unified – where there aren't even enough students to fill your typical urban high school – 11 kids won drafting awards from the California State Fair last summer.

For more than 20 years, the district has been teaching the basics of drafting as early as middle school. And the only full-service grocery store in nearby Georgetown has donated close to $3,000 a year since the early 1990s so the drafting kids at Georgetown Middle School and Golden Sierra High School have the most modern equipment.

It's no surprise, then, that students and teachers from Black Oak Mine Unified are concerned about changes afoot inside the fair's Industrial & Technology Education
