- LAKE TAHOE, CA - Gov. Schwarzenegger and Gov. Gibbons of Nevada declared a state of emergency for the Tahoe Basin to expedite making the heavily forested area more fire-safe.
The proclamation means that state law requiring 100 feet of defensible space around structures will be enforced. Property owners are responsible for clearing their land of underbrush and vegetation 100 feet from homes and outbuildings.
