A
picture perfect Saturday morning in Placerville means breakfast at
Sweetie Pies and a trip to the farmers market in the parking lot. Not
only is it in a quaint little home turned restaurant, their food is a
delight as well as the service, especially since I grew up here, it has
never changed. You can choose to sit inside, outside, or on the
patio. They also have a cute cat that lives on the porch. The
only downsides are that they can run out of the baked goods after the
morning rush and the bill can get a little pricey but the secret is to
order the "small bites" off the menu. You can get a huge
piece of French toast with cream cheese glaze and an egg and bacon for
$5! Drizzle some of their Ollie berry syrup and you are in heaven!
Cinnamon Buns are amazing as well, you can also purchase them
frozen and bake them at home!
One of the stars of the local cuisine-scene! As
has been mentioned elsewhere, the restaurant is in a turn-of-the-century
house, which lends ambience to the dining experience. The menu items pay
attention to detail, with interesting ingredient choices, and portions are
generous to say the least. There is outside dining as well, but choose this
judiciously, as traffic noise can be problematic. They are open for
breakfast/lunch, and they recently have been open for dinner on certain
nights - but call first to make sure.
A great place to go for brunchfast with your lover. At least it is for
us!
***UPDATE JULY 2007****
I just moved to Placerville. So now I only have to drive 3 minutes to
get to Sweetie Pie's. Hell, I can now *walk* to Sweetie Pie's from
where I'm staying. I won't say that I chose Placerville because of
Sweetie Pie's, but it certainly didn't hurt!
*****Original Post*****
I live in San Francisco and have family in Placerville. I love my
family, but the real reason I visit so often is Sweetie Pie's! Shhh,
don't tell anyone!
I am a brunch person. I love brunch, and am on a lifelong quest to
find the best brunch spots around. Sweetie Pie's ranks up there as one
of my favorites, and here's why:
1. cinnamon rolls w/ nuts -- oh my god, they are heaven! If I am too
full to eat one with my brunch, I get one to go to have it later.
2. homemade olallieberry jam -- amazing! Just what you want
homemade jam to be, sweet, but not sugary, thick, with lots of this
exploding fruit taste.
3. french toast -- They know how to do it right, with fresh thick-cut
home-made bread, good batter, cooked perfectly, and accompanied by your
choice of maple or olallieberry syrup.
4. good variety on the menu and generous portions
5. super friendly service -- these people actually seem to like their jobs
and/or their boss, and it shows. They are unfailingly helpful and
friendly without being manic or intrusive about it.
Okay, all this talk about Sweetie Pie's has actually made my mouth water.
Alas, they are a two-hour drive away from me.... If I thought I
could make it there before they stop serving brunch, I would probably play
hooky and go for it!
What a cute stop over on the drive to Tahoe! A lovely diner with delicious homestyle cooking. I love the fresh baked cinnamon apple bread and blueberry pancakes. Service extremely sweet and friendly!
Have to agree with Norm L, again, this is a good breakfast spot. Need to try the dinner, too. Service is not tops, but may have been the day, Saturday and it was busy. Almost had to get my own drink a few times.
This is my favorite brunch spot in El Dorado
County. They have the BEST cinnamon buns I've ever had. They
sell out pretty quickly on the weekends and you may need to lose a few winks
in order to get your buns sprinkled with nuts - yum! If they're gone
by the time you get there, don't despair! You can purchase a sheet of
uncooked buns and bake them at home - marvelous.
The ambiance is country kitchen set inside an old victorian house - there
are tons of intimate nooks and crannies in which you may find yourself
seated. A charming breakfast spot that serves huge portions!
