THE HOMICIDE of BELL - 1860

On the death of Hon. J.C. BELL, his slayer, Dr. STONE, have himself up to the authorities. He was examined before a Justice of the Peace, who refused bail and committed him. A writ of habeas corpus was sued out and he had a hearing under it before Judge McKUNE, of the District Court, who also refused bail and committed him to answer the charge of murder. A writ of habeas corpus was then sued out by his counsel and the case taken before Judge BALDWIN of the Supreme Court to be heard at 11 o'clock on Thursday morning.

FUNERAL of BEL -- J.C. BELL, member of the Assembly from El Dorado county, who was fatally stabbed at the Capitol last week by Dr. STONE and died on Sunday, was buried on Monday, amid pompous demonstrations of sorrow. He was an Odd Fellow.
