A new facility was unveiled in El Dorado Hills on Tuesday aimed at giving law enforcement officers tactical training that could save their lives.
A document processing company is loaning the building, while the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department raised about $10,000 in donations for the facility.
As part of the training, armed deputies move from room to room, confronting actors portraying potential criminals in various scenarios they might face in the real world.
"We are confronted and faced with what seems to be a ... more aggressive society and some more violent crimes," El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Neves said.
On hand for the event was Crystal Mitchell, wife of slain Sacramento County Deputy Jeffrey Mitchell. The deputy was killed while on duty near Sloughhouse in October. No arrests have been made in that case.
"We miss Jeff terribly, and I feel like I can't move forward until we find out who did this to him," she said.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department said the new training facility was in the works well before Mitchell was killed. But officials said Mitchell's death is just one example why such practice is needed.
