Looking ahead to the new year, Golden Sierra High School officials will have to come up with about $2,000 they probably had not planned on spending, the estimated cost to repair four playing fields damaged by vandals last week.
The El Dorado County school is located in Garden Valley, off Highway 193 on the Georgetown Divide, between the north and south forks of the American River.
A report by El Dorado County sheriff's deputies states that a school dance was held Thursday night and officials thought that all the gates had been locked by about 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Later that morning they discovered that one or more vehicles had gained entry to the playing fields and drivers had ripped up the turf with numerous "doughnut" maneuvers. Deputies said that some of the tire ruts were 3 to 6 inches deep.
By Wednesday summary reports indicated that no arrests had been made and no suspects had been identified.
