County Supervisors Drop Opposition to Casino
Having already filed a new lawsuit against the Caltrans Casino Interchange on September 7, VRL will announce the filing of a major Federal lawsuit this month. The legal challenge will continue to stop any casino in El Dorado County.
On September 28, 2006, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors and the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians entered into a memorandum of understanding where, in exchange for nearly $192,000,000 to be paid over 20 years, El Dorado County would drop its opposition and its litigation in state and federal courts against the Shingle Springs Casino and the Caltrans Freeway Interchange project which would give exclusive access off Highway 50 to the proposed casino to be located on the north side of Highway 50 between Shingle Springs Drive and Greenstone Rd.

County residents and Voices for Rural Living are outraged that El Dorado County has backed down from its opposition to the proposed Shingle Springs Casino. Yesterday the County called this casino a planning nightmare, a monstrosity that no sensible politician would ever approve. Today the county is a cheerleader for this casino.

Concerned county residents and VRL will continue to fight this casino, because no matter how much money the Indians are willing to pay to get their gambling facility built, this casino is bad for the County. Read below for an analysis of the agreement and all the reasons that the agreement is a bad deal for the people of El Dorado County.

VRL purposely filed lawsuits separately from the County because we doubted that the County had the conviction to stay in this battle for the long run.
