My aunt and uncle first took me to Z-pie on one of our day tips to Placerville.  I now make it a point to have dinner there everytime I go up to Apple Hill in the Fall.  Everything on the menu is a pot pie...but gourmet style.  My favorite pie is the steak cabernet.  Your pies come with organic spring mix salad.  You can even order your pies to go.  Just stick them in your freezer and bake at your leisure.

Definitely one of our favorite places to eat in Placerville. Their menu consists of pot pies, and sides - but what pot pies! Nothing like the Swanson/Banquet travesties that we all grew up on - these are Australian-style, with tasty, flaky crusts and gourmet fillings. We always upgrade the salad to their apple/walnut/Gorgonzola salad, and there is a nice selection of beers to choose from.

The only reason Z-Pie doesn't get a five-star rating is their wait staff: while they are personable enough, they take their sweet-ass time taking care of you.

Friends and I went to Placerville just to try Z-Pie.  It's pretty good.  The size is a little bigger than the Frozen Swanson's but pretty filling.  The pies don't come automatically with salad-salad is Extra!!

One friend got Steak and Cabernet $5.15  It's supposed to have beef, onions, carrots, potatoes, peas, tomatoes, red wine, pearl onions, beef stock, flour, butter (unsalted), salt & pepper.  He didn't see any tomatoes, but still liked it.

I got the Chicken & mushrooms-chicken, mushrooms, garlic, red pepper, green beans, thyme, chicken stock, butter (unsalted), potatoes, flour, salt & pepper $4.95.  I liked my pie-flaky crust which is Great.  inside is good.

other friend got the Southwestern chicken-grilled chicken, potatoes, chicken stock, black bean, red pepper, corn, cream, green chili, garlic, salt & pepper.  $4.95.  he liked it, said the flaky crust is good.

The waitress was very nice and thought the service was fine, though a bit slow.  Not too bad.  One unisex bathroom available in the take-out portion of the building.  Take-out pies are available.

Next to the City Hall, across from the Center Street Garage. Off Hwy 50.

Thank you to Alisha for showing me the way here.  Yum, yummity yum!  On your way to or from Apple Hill, stop here.  It's so good.  You can get a very filling little pot pie combo. You can get beer and pie.  You can get organic salad greens, a veggie pie, and tea.  You can buy pies to go frozen and in bulk to cook at home for a few clams less than what you pay at the restaurant.  Brilliant idea, kudos to the entrepreneurs who knew I like pot pies full of steak and cabernet (or cabaret, as Alisha likes to call it, because really, who doesn't want a little Liza in their pot pie?)
